Marilyn’s
paintings continually show an evolution which is reflective of
the many passages of her life. The President of the Cape Cod Art
Association recently commented that her paintings “are
illuminated with a sense of the soul within.”
Her love of color was always with her, even as a small child.
However, her impressionistic style of using color is a newer,
more free and spontaneous approach to expressing her joy in
painting. “I think that it took me 20 years of painting until I
really felt I was realistically portraying my subjects. I still
felt that I had much more to learn and now I realize that I am
on my second leg of realizing my life’s goals as a painter. It
is going to take 20 more years to undo that perfections of line
and shadow , to once again capture the joyous illusion of color
and spontaneity that comes from immersing oneself in the
abstract, wonderful, color-drenched world around us.”
During the winter months, the artist travels to various
workshops in the Cape Cod area. Previous workshops and
demonstrations have been held in Florida, New Hampshire and
California. Marilyn Schofield is widely known for her
impressionistic use of bright color in traditional Cape Cod
landscapes and subjects. She is one of the Art Associations most
sought out critics and her critiquing sessions are well-known
for their insightful and helpful suggestions to the artists.
